Russ Miller

Whew! It's been a crazy past few months with Be a DrumHead getting underway and countless new and exciting things happening in the land of the DrumFrame. We promise to be more timely with updates, and we'll begin with one regarding Russ Miller. Russ has been involved with the DrumFrame almost from the beginning and has remained a very strong and vocal supporter of the product and concept. He's been quite the busy guy himself, releasing a number of education videos through Warner Bros Music Publishing, the latest of which is "The Drum Set Crash Course". He'll also be performing at the NAMM convention in Anaheim next month; watch for him at the Yamaha Groove Night! As if that weren't enough, his new album, "Cymbalism" is out and he's touring with the Russ Miller Band through 2001! You can check out some photos from one of the recent video shoots here!

It's video time, once again! Warner Bros. is releasing the newest in the "Inspiring Drummers" series called Be a DrumHead. It features Will Kennedy and Bob Gatzen, and details how practice space and time can affect one's drumming. To coincide with the video releaes, there will be a new web site at www.beadrumhead.com, featuring a host of cool concepts and interactivity. One of these will be a Mssage Board where visitors can post suggestions or ideas to the drum industry and have them forwarded to the appropriate manufacturers. There will also be exclusive MP3's of drumless mixes that visitors can download and practice to. Here's the official word:

Discover the many exciting advantages of playing the drums and how your "drum space" will affect everything you do. From developing ideas to speaking the unique language of the drums, you will be enlightened with innovative concepts, inspiring original musical performances, and be transported to a place shaped into anything you can imagine. Whether a pro or part-timer, think creatively...Be a DrumHead!

Will Kennedy, world-renowned Grammy award-winning drummer, & Bob Gatzen, the talented multi-faceted designer/producer are staged at the V-Room, a hi-tech practice facility. A virtual screen takes you on location to Bob's DrumLab, where you will learn how to set up a cool drum space and get the most out of your drumming environment and practice time.

INTRODUCING ... Practice Time Management (PTM™), a unique method of breaking down musical compositions by its form into specifically timed intervals, allowing you to focus and develop each section of the music separately. PTM™ will maximize your time at the drums.

The video is scheduled for release in late October with an offical release at PASIC in Dallas, November 14-17. In other PASIC news, Will will be giving a clinic at this year's convention, as well as Chester Thompson and Zoro. Also Zoro, Will, and Bob Gatzen will be giving clinics and masterclasses at the Montreal DrumFest in Canada, November 3-5.

-DrumFrame in Italy...Disney Style!

Steve Pearson

Steve Pearson plays in the Italian pavillion at EPCOT with the neo-baroque band, Nova Era. He says, of the DrumFrame "...after I recently hurt my back, I took a trip to the chiropractor. The x-rays they took showed bone spurs in my spine and mild scoliosis which we could only attribute to years of sitting behind a kit (and maybe countless hours stuck in a car driving). I really am amazed by the amount of pressure that the DrumFrame takes off the lower back and how comfortable it is. Now, all I need is one of those vibrating massagers in the back so I can just stay in my DrumFrame in between shows!" Click the picture or here to see Steve in full period costume on the DrumFrame!

-DrumFrame at EPCOT
Another DrumFrame has been added to Walt Disney World, this time in front of Spaceship Earth at EPCOT. It is being played by Charlie St.Cyr-Paul in the "Cast in Bronze" show that accompanies a giant carillon. Take a look at some recent photos here!
